„Da Cruz transformed the music of the cool Bossa-Nova-Romantics in the presence, and dances with it towards the future.“ Anna-Bianca Krause, Berlin Seu Jorge, Zuco 103, Cibelle, Bebel Gilberto: Some of the most exciting brazilian music is momentarily produced outside of Brazil. The singer Mariana Da Cruz is a new one of these creative runaways. From São Paulo she first emigrated to Lisboa and finally stranded in Switzerland, where she founded the group Da Cruz. Together with her producer Ane H. (the former singer of the Industrial band Swamp Terrorists) and the guitar player Oliver Husmann she creates an eclectic, danceable mix between Bossa Nova, Funk, Electro and contemporary Samba Rock. The second album of Da Cruz is called „Corpo Elétrico“ and was partly recorded in São Paulo and Berne/Switzerland. With the debut CD „Nova Estação“, the band was one of the bigger surprises of the music year 2007. The CD was licensed all over the world, sold astonishingly good – and in the USA the label Six Degrees (Bebel Gilberto, CéU) was responsible for a great campaign, leading DA CRUZ to the Top-10 of the CMJ World Charts. On the first album DA CRUZ participated with the former Tom Jobim Drummer Duduka Da Fonseca, for the new album „Corpo Elétrico“ they cooperated with percussionist Bolão (Dorival Caymmi, Nei Matogrosso, Ivette Sangalo) and the London based producers Da Lata (ex Smoke City). Da Cruz played more than 40 concerts last year, from France to Brasil, from Openairs in Germany to Rock-Clubs in Rio de Janeiro or World Festivals in Switzerland. „Da Cruz stands for a modern, a curious and a proud Brazil“, says Mariana Da Cruz. „There are so many boring clichés around, about my country. With my music I try to show, that there is a Brazil far away from carneval, bikinis and samba-plumes „ there is also an urban, progressive, open but still romantic Brazil with a sane respect towards its traditions and culture.”
